ghd IV Styler

Ah, the trusty old ghd IV styler. First launched in 2007 and still going strong 5 years later.

It's funny to think it now that we are so used to curling our hair with our stylers, but before the launch of the IV, stylers were called straighteners and were for, well, straightening. Then the IV ghd came along and changed everything.

One simple design change was all it took to turn those amazing irons into multi purpose tools, which could straighten, curl, flick and style, and that change was a rounded barrel. The ghd Mk3 was a fantastic hair straightener, but this was a huge leap forward in heat styling. We are all used to seeing ghd curls on the menu at our favourite hair salons, but this only became possible after the launch of the IV.

I now use the ghd Gold Classic (which is the latest model), but retain a misty eyed fondness for the ghd IV and would have no problem recommending it to anyone - it's a great iron. My sacred mk4 saved my hair on many occassions and curling and styling with the styler is very easy. Indeed, I know some hair stylists who refuse to upgrade and believe that the IV Styler is superior to the Gold.

I must stress I am not one of them, the Gold is the better styler in my opinion, but that's not to take anything away from the IV. They are different price points and both have their place, which is why ghd continue to offer both models.

The plates of the iron are 1 inch, which is best for straightening medium length hair of regular thickness. For thicker hair use the ghd Gold Max Styler (upgrade on the old Salon Styler).
